Chef Knives

Chef knives are also known as French knives. They are a valuable cooking tool used in food preparation. It was originally designed for slicing up large cuts of beef. However, today it has come to be more of a general purpose knife in Western cooking.

It could be said that chef knives are an evolution of the butcher knife. The standard design has a blade of about eight inches in length and one and a half inches in width. That is simply the norm, however. Chef blade sizes will range from six to fourteen inches in length.

Chef knives come in two blade shapes: German and French. The German design has a pronounced curve at the tip and is far more common. The French design, on the other hand, is of a more triangular shape.
